William Poff Obituary

William Charles ‘Charlie’ Poff, age 71, passed away all too soon on Thursday evening, July 29, 2021 at his home on Sweetwater Lake in Brown County.

By his side, was his loving wife of 42 years, Diane (Herr) Poff, whom he married on August 11, 1978 in Indianapolis. He is survived by their daughter, Melissa (Kevin) Pharr and beloved grandsons, Charlie and Cooper Pharr.

Charlie was born on September 28, 1949 in Franklin. He is preceded in death by his parents, the late William Fredrick and Eloise (Tielking) Poff along with his brother, Dale. His sister, Marcia (Bill) Snyder survives.

Charlie attended Whiteland High School and from there joined the United States Army Corps. He served as a Sergeant with Company D 91st Engineer Battalion during the Vietnam War. Charlie was the recipient of many commendations and medals including, the Vietnam Service Medal with a Silver Service Star, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and one Bronze Service Star for his accomplished deeds of valor and heroic conduct during the Vietnam War.

Later, he received a degree in Electronics from Ivy Tech. He retired from repairing printing presses. After retirement, he owned and operated Just Powerwash in Brown County.

Charlie was a member of the VFW. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed swimming, boating, waterskiing, hunting and caring for his home on the lake. Charlie truly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.

In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, he will be cremated. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Nineveh Cemetery on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Pastor John Lucas and his uncle Dick Poff will officiate followed by military honors presented by the US Army and the Brown County Honor Guard. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
