William Hatchett Obituary

William H. “Bill” Hatchett, age 101 passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Rosemont Assisted Living Center in Humble, Texas. He was a was former resident of Franklin and Providence, Indiana.

Bill was born March 29, 1919 in Morgantown, to his parents, the late Otis B. and Glenna E. (Mosburg) Hatchett. He was a 1938 graduate of Morgantown High School. Bill retired in May of 1979 after 38 years of service to the Eaton Corporation, where he worked as the Paymaster. Prior to that, Bill worked for McQuay Norris Mfg.

On November 21, 1941, Bill married his loving wife, Marianne A. (Stout) Hatchett in Providence.  Marianne preceded him in death on March 9, 2015 after 73 devoted years of marriage. Bill was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, James A. Hatchett and sister, “Faye” Yount.

Bill was a member of Providence Christian Church for 79 years where he held various offices and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.  He was also a longtime member of the choir. Prior to that he was member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown. Other memberships included the Union Village Masonic Lodge #545 in Providence, and he served as a Scout Master in Providence.

Bill and Marianne spent many winters at their home in N. Ft. Myers, FL.  He loved to travel, enjoyed taking pictures, bowling, playing shuffleboard, and golf.  He loved being with his family and visiting with neighbors at the Whispering Ponds Club House.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca A. (Richard) Ritter; granddaughters, Angie (Chris) Ludwig and Andi (Michael) Webb; great grandchildren, Ashley Stroud (fiancée Justin Bader), Victoria Webb (fiancée Austin Patterson), Hailey (James) Tyler, Katelyn Webb and Jake Ludwig, all of Huffman, TX.

The Rev. Steven Sorensen will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary, 300 South Morton St. in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and follow the mandate by the Governor of Indiana, all visitors will be required to provide and wear their own face coverings and maintain social distancing.
