Thomas L. ‘Tom’ Taylor, age 79 passed away peacefully Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his home in Martinsville.
He was born on December 26, 1941 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late George and Margaret (Ursiny) Taylor. Tom graduated from Southport High School in 1960 and briefly attended Indiana Central College in Indianapolis. He proudly went on to serve as an Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Technician Petty Officer Second Class with the United States Navy.
During the 1970’s, Tom became the owner and operator of Taylor Heating & Air in Morgan County. He retired from Amtrack in Sanford, Florida where he worked as an Electrician for over 25 years. After retirement, Tom became the owner and operator of Taylor Electrical Services in Deltona, Florida.
Tom enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, flying, boating and metal detecting. He will be remembered for always building or repairing something for family or friends. Tom was a member of the Martinsville American Legion and the National Rifle Association. He loved spending time with his family, caring for his dog, Rondy and rescuing many cats.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Glenda A. (Sturgeon) Taylor; whom he married on February 5, 1972 in Whiteland. He is also survived by his children, Walter Johnson of Indianapolis, Michael Taylor of Ohio, Janice Taylor of Greenwood and Crystal (Neil) Porter of Florida; sisters, Nancy (Craig) Mason of Carmel and Peggy Brackett of Noblesville; six grandchildren and a great granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Morgan County with military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars.
