Sue Rogers Obituary

Sue Ann Rogers, a longtime resident of Brown County, died in her husband’s arms on December 30, 2022. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Sue was born on December 1, 1951, in Carmel, Indiana, to Wilfred Carlisle (Bill) Fish and Evelyn Annabeth (Betty) Heather Fish. She was raised on a farm on County Line Road between Zionsville and Carmel. As a young girl, she was an accomplished horsewoman, excelled at twirling the baton, and won numerous ribbons for her activities in 4H. She was also an active member of the Society of Friends (Quaker) Church in Carmel.

Sue’s mother died suddenly when she was nine years old, leaving her and her two older brothers, John and Thomas Joe (Tom), to fend for themselves while their father traveled for his  job during the week. Two years later her father married Pauline (Polly) Kutz, who brought her teenaged son, John Kutz, into the blended family. Sue was thrilled when Bill and Polly had two children together, Jean and James Edward. She especially liked having a sister!

After graduating from Carmel High School, Sue attended Ball State University. She later met and married Frank Barton and moved to Brown County, Indiana, where her two sons, Joshua and Adam Jacob (AJ) were born.

After college and a divorce, she took a paralegal job and later began working for the Monroe County Prosecutors Office Child Support Division and worked there until her retirement in 2018. Many lifelong friends were formed through this employment.

In 1999, Sue married Robert Thomas (Rob) Rogers of Brown County, who was the love of her life. Sue became step-mother to Chris Rogers and Jennifer Sterns, and loved the fact that she finally had a daughter! Sue and Rob built their dream home on 20 acres in the heart of Brown County, where she lived for the rest of her life. Sue and Rob enjoyed having their family, especially their grandchildren, visit their home.

Preceding her in death were her father, her mother, her stepmother, her son Joshua, and her 175 pound Rottweiler, Yucon.

Sue is survived by her husband, Rob Rogers, her son AJ (Brittany), her brothers John Fish (Kathy) and Tom Fish, her stepbrother John Kutz (Alberta), her half-siblings Jean Harris (Kent) and Jim Fish (Tammie). Being a grandmother was her great joy in life. She is survived by her grandchildren Lauren Riley Barton, Colton James Barton, Uriah Blue Barton, Emma Jean Barton,  Charlie Rogers, Maddie Stearns, and Nicolas Braner. She was also the “cool” aunt to Michael Fish, Angela Fish, Macon Beck, Jennifer Weaver, Matthew Kutz, Andrew Kutz, Kyle Harris, Luke Harris, Nichole Whitney, Brayton Fish, Mchale Fish, and Grayson Fish, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her peacock, Bob!

When being remembered by her family, everyone agreed that if you were picking teams, and Sue was on the other team, you were going to lose! Her kindness and spark will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Sue at her family home later this spring and a tree will be planted in her honor.  Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
