Sandra Sue “Sandy” (Miers) Wood, age 77 passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2020 at her home in Morgantown.

She was born July 1, 1942, in Johnson County. Sandy was a 1960 graduate of Morgantown High School and she loved being a mother, grandmother and homemaker for her family. Sandy worked alongside her late husband, George, in his building business and raising quarter horses. Prior to that, she worked as a Clerk for Western Union for several years. Later in life, Sandy worked at the Wild and Wonderful Western Wear Shop in Nashville and as a cook at the Brown County Jail. Sandy was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Trafalgar. 

Her hobbies included: reading, walking, mushroom hunting, growing fresh vegetables and canning.  She will be remembered for her love of family gatherings where they would enjoy her famous chili. Sandy and her late husband traveled the country, competing in Quarter Horse Shows. Sandy instilled in her children, her love for Brown County and its rich history.

Sandy was preceded in death on September 16, 1990 by her loving and devoted husband of 29 years, George C. Wood, whom she married on July 21, 1961 in Morgantown. Sandy was also preceded in death by her mother, Orpha (Weddle) McLary; father, William Miers; siblings, Donna Walker, Billy Wayne Miers, Marlin Miers and Sharon Ann Miers.

She is survived by her daughters, Kyle Lynn Wood - Parish of Morgantown & Georgia Jean (Joe) Fox of Brown County; sister, Betty (Lee) Collett of Brown County; brother in law, John Walker of Morgantown; special adopted children, Jeff Hoskins of Brown County and Daniell Clarke of Bloomington; grandchildren, Casey Jo (Aaron) Slate of Ashville, NC, Austin Lee Parish of Morgantown & Heather Renee Fox of Brown County; great-grandchildren: Abigail Grace Slate, Derek, Jaxon & Titan Teeguarden.

The Rev. Jeff Hopson will conduct a private family graveside service on Saturday at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.  A public graveside visitation will be held from 3 - 4 p.m. on Saturday at East Hill Cemetery with COVID-19 restrictions limiting visitation to 25 friends and family at a time. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
