Retired elementary school teacher, Mrs. Sandra J. ‘Sandy’ (Weaver) Stockton, age 77, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2021. Sandy was a life-long resident of Morgantown.
She was born August 22, 1944 in Martinsville to her parents, Harold Wm. ‘Pada’ & Jeanne L. (Mercer) Weaver. She was a 1962 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University in 1965 and her masters in 1968.
Sandy began her accomplished 38 year teaching career as an elementary teacher in Martinsville from 1965 to 1968. She held the same position at Morgantown Elementary School from 1968 until the merger of Nineveh Hensley Jackson School Corp in 1986. After the merger, Sandy continued as an elementary teacher for Indian Creek Elementary School until her retirement in June of 2006. Sandy’s passion and dedication for teaching young children comes from her feeling of fulfillment through the years. She was always there for her students and inspiring them with a smile, hug, laugh or there to just listen.
Sandy was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority and the Indiana State Teachers Association. She enjoyed making hand-made crafts, helping with primitive booth items and working in her flower gardens. Sandy also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Sandy leaves behind her loving husband of 56 years, Norman D. Stockton, whom she married on January 31, 1965 at the Morgantown United Methodist Church. She will be missed by her mother, Jeanne Weaver of Morgantown; children, Wade (wife, Marie) Stockton of Smyrna, Georgia and Cara (husband, Tyson) Burris of Franklin; siblings, Hollis (wife, Annette) Weaver of Germantown, Ohio and Eric (Jane) Weaver of Franklin; grandchildren, Devin (wife, Sophia) Ankney, Brooke, Brandon and Wesley Burris, Mason and Katherine Stockton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Wm. ‘Pada’ Weaver.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, December 17th at 7 p.m. at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
