Sandra Fields Obituary

Sandra K. “Sandy” (Allender) Fields, age 70 passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 21, 2021 at her home in Brown County.

Sandy was born October 19, 1950, in Bloomington, to her parents the late Richard "Bill" and Christina (Dempsy) Allender.  She attended Helmsburg High School and was the owner and operator of the Brown County Dragway since 1993.

Sandy was a member of the Morgan County Antique Machinery Association for over 12 years and held the office of Secretary for the last 2 years. In the 1990’s, she wrote articles for the national magazine: Coonhound Bloodlines. Her column was titled “Saddle Up” and grabbed the attention of readers throughout the United States. Through the years, Sandy enjoyed raising Walker Coonhounds, buying, selling and showing mules and going to auctions. She became the first woman to receive the highest national award for coon hunting from the Ace Coon Club. When she wasn’t spending time with her animals, she was mowing her properties with her Dixie Chopper or sitting outside visiting with her close friends and family.

She will be missed by her companion of 20 years, Carl Vaught of Brown County; children: Wm. “Billy” Fields and his wife Misty, of Shelbyville and Bandy Russell and her husband Brent, of Brown County; grandchildren: Collin Richardson and his fiancé Victoria and Cayden Fields, Bailey Russell and Waylon Russell; siblings: Donald “Donnie” Allender and his wife Rita, of Santa Claus and Richard “Termite” Allender of Bloomington; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and sister Diane Harris.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.
