Ronald Sichting Obituary

Ronald ‘Joe’ Sichting, age 83 passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 29, 2022 at his home in Franklin. He was a former longtime resident of Trafalgar.

Joe was born April 25, 1939 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late James Elmer and Helen G. (Burns) Sichting. He was a 1957 graduate of Trafalgar High School and went on to serve his country as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army and the Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963. Joe retired as the owner and operator of Contractors Equipment Service in Indianapolis after 29 years of service. Prior to that, he worked for Tousley-Bixler Construction for over 25 years.

Joe was a 72-year member of the of Morgantown United Methodist Church, where he served as a former Trustee. Other memberships include, 50-year member and former Past Master of the Trafalgar Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of Trafalgar Eastern Star, former member of Morgantown Eastern Star, Morgantown Lion's Club, Franklin American Legion Post 205, Past President & Volunteer Fireman of Morgantown Volunteer Fire Department, Past President of the Johnson County Fair Association and Past President of the Indiana Association of Fairs & Festivals. Joe also served for several years on the Johnson County Planning Commission Board.

He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was always there to support them in 4-H and athletics. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and was a fan of NASCAR. Joe also cheered on Peyton Manning and IU Men’s Basketball. Joe’s true passion was farming and raising livestock on the family homestead. 

Joe was preceded in death on February 28, 2017 by his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy S. (Matlock) Sichting, whom he married on June 14, 1959 at the Morgantown United Methodist Church. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Barbara Foster, William "Bill" Sichting, John Paul Sichting, Gary Sichting and Larry Sichting; and brother-in-law, Raymond Foster; sisters in law, Marty Sichting and Linda Sichting.

He is survived by his children, Mark (Amy) Sichting of Morgantown, Stan (Pam) Sichting of Columbus, Mike (Vicki) Sichting and Stacy (Rick) Parmer, both of Franklin; siblings, Don Sichting of Trafalgar, Sandra (Aubrey) Zook of Martinsville, Myla (Mike) Magennis of Martinsville and Dan (Lucinda) Sichting of Brookston; sisters in law, Janet Sichting & Ruth Sichting, both of Franklin, brother in law, John (Sarah) Matlock of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Eric (Amber) Sichting, Amber (T.J.) Reguli, Kevin (Michelle) Sichting, Brad (Brooke) Sichting, Brandon (Leah) Sichting, Chris Overfelt, Sean (Jenna) Sichting, Joe Sichting, Trevor Sichting, Shelby (Jordon) Watson, Tara (Cody) Coll and R.J. Parmer; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers that helped take care of Joe. You all were such a blessing. Special thanks to Mainstreet Hospice for their compassionate care.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
