Robert "Bob" E. Hill

Robert E. ‘Bob’ Hill, age 86 of Martinsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon, December 26, 2021 from IU Health in Bloomington.

He was born July 27, 1935 to his parents, the late Fred W. and Ethel V. Hill. Bob served as a Specialist 4 of the 18th Finance Disbursing Section of the United States Army. After serving his country, he graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a degree in accounting.

Bob retired in 2005 as the accountant for The Hill Company in Indianapolis after 25 years of service. Prior to that, he worked as the Office Manager for Lifegate Publishing Company in Monrovia, which publishes “God’s Simple Plan of Salvation” by Ford Porter.

Bob was a loyal and devoted 50-year member of the Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle in Martinsville and served as the church’s Treasurer for over 45 years. Bob will remember as a very humble and gentle man. He stayed active by going to church and playing tennis with close friends, up until the age of eighty-five. Bob was a huge sports fan with the IU Basketball & Football, Pacers and the Indianapolis Colts being his favorite teams. He was a strong supporter of the active military & local veterans and enjoyed talking politics. Bob also enjoyed singing at home and caring for all animals. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Patty Lou (Hicks-Piper) Hill, whom he married on May 16, 1992 in Martinsville. Bob is also survived by his children, Carol (Ron West) Parsley of Greenwood, Patti Lawhorn of Greenfield and Michael (Linda) Piper of Indianapolis; siblings, Charles (Martha) Hill and Lois Wilson, both of Martinsville; 8 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren; as well as   several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son in law, David Lawhorn.

Pastor David Zempel will conduct a funeral service on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle, 2189 Burton Lane in Martinsville. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military honors presented by the United States Army and the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
