Richard E. ‘Rick’ Harris, age 76 passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday morning, January 22, 2023 at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville with family by his side. He was a resident of Woodland Lake in Brown County.
Rick was born October 21, 1946 in Oak Park, IL, to his parents, the late Eugene E. and Gladys (Waldkoetter) Harris. He was a 1964 graduate of Columbus High School and went on to study Electronics at Sams Technical Institute in Indianapolis. Rick retired as a Technical Writer from Naval Avionics in Indianapolis and held the same position prior at several different companies, including Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Howard W. Sams Electronic Association and was an avid Ham Radio Operator. He served on the ski patrol at Ski World. Rick enjoyed fishing, target shooting, playing his guitars and repairing cars for family and friends. He and his wife, Joy, enjoyed traveling and vacationing in the mountains of Montana and the Great Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Rick will be remembered for his love of family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy ‘Joy’ (Calender) Harris, whom he married on September 24, 1967 in Flora. Rick is also survived by his children, Ginger (James) Ripberger of Brown County, Deena (Bucky) Galloway of Corydon and Jeremy Harris of Indianapolis; sisters, Ruth Kear of Mexico and Debbie (Paul) Vice of Seymour; grandchildren, Kayleigh & Kyler Ripberger of Brown County.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Rodney Harris.
In keeping with Rick’s wishes, he will be cremated and a Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
