Ray Hancock Obituary

Ray Hancock, age 74 passed away Wednesday morning, August 24, 2011 at Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation in Greenfield. He was a resident of Greenfieldand former resident of Brown County.

Ray was born December 29, 1936, in Adair County, Kentucky to the late Henry Eulas and Ola Mae (Barnett) Hancock. He was one of 13 siblings. Ray married Carolyn S. Wilkinson on October 26, 1956 in Nashville. She preceded him in death after 39 loving years on March 27, 1996.

Ray retired in 1987 as a foundry worker with International Harvester after 33 years of service and was a member of the UAW Local 402. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and working in his flower and vegetable gardens. Ray enjoyed collecting knifes & guns, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also was a lover of all animals.

Ray was the loving father to three daughters: Linda S. (husband, Clay) Gallup of Tompkinsville, KY, Gloria M. (husband, Brian) Long of Nineveh & Gayla J. North of Columbus; three sons: Dennis R. Hancock of Brown County, Mark E. (wife, Kim) Hancock of Charlottesville & Kip D. (wife, Buffy) Hancock of Heltonville. He will be remembered by his sisters: Barbara Sims of Indianapolis & Shirley (fiancé, Larry Redmon) Geary of Greenfield; and one brother:Troy(wife, Angie) Hancock of Greenfield; 13 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren.

Ray was preceded in death by one daughter: Judy Bray; one grandson: Michael Scharbrough; two sisters: Helen Jackson & Irene Hancock; seven brothers: Ernest, Kenneth, John, Wallace, Archie, Gordon & Harold Hancock.

The Rev. Matt Satter will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center,179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Ray will be laid to rest next to his wife at Nineveh Cemetery in Nineveh.
