Ophelia (Cabrera) Sanchez

Ophelia Cabrera Sanchez, age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 29, 2022 while under hospice care at her daughter’s home in Solsberry, Indiana. She was a resident of Santa Ana, California.

Ophelia was born February 16, 1937 in El Modena, California, to her parents, the late Santos and Anastacia R. (Rodriguez) Cabrera. She was a 1955 graduate of El Modena High School in California. Ophelia was a loving homemaker, wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

She was a nature lover who enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and plants. Ophelia loved spending time with her huge family and was loved by all. She will be remembered for never forgetting a loved one’s birthday, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never used a calendar as a reminder. Ophelia will be missed by her family dearly.

She is survived by her children, Aurelia (Richard) McCracken, Refugio (Rachel) Sanchez, Susan (Basilio) Arreola, Evelyn (Donnie) Chance, Luis (Cathy) Sanchez, JoAnn (Anthony Budd) McIntosh, Ralph Sanchez and Larry (Stella) Guerra; sister, Piti Maldonado; 27 grandchildren & 51 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ophelia was preceded in death on June 17, 2000, by her husband, Refugio Sanchez, whom she married on December 24, 1960 in Orange, California. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Gregory Sanchez; siblings, Kate Arriola, Santos Cabrera, Lupe Cabrera, Frances Delgado, Esther Figueroa, Carmen Reyes, Eddie Cabrera, and Gloria Busane; and daughter-in-law, Dina Sanchez.

A private family graveside service will be held at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
