Natalie N. (Naylor) Stant

Natalie Naylor Stant, born January 19th, 1931, passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2023. 

She was the daughter of William and Natalie Naylor of Marion, Alabama. Natalie is survived by her twin sister, Patricia Lundin; as well as her sons Lou (Miriam), William (Nancy Goddard), Jeffrey (Mary Bookwalter) and Timothy (Laurie); her grandchildren Emily, Nicholas, Martin, Kylah (Stefano), Natalie (David), Zack (Cindy), Marina, and Gabriel; and great-grandchildren Dominick, Bradley, Maya, Henry and Thomas.

Natalie was born during the Great Depression and lived through a challenging time of economic hardship and World War II. She was a piano accompanist as well as a French Horn player. She was a gifted conversationalist who left everyone she talked with feeling heard, understood, respected and supported.  She applied this talent to nurturing school children through the challenges of early life.

She earned a bachelors degree in English Literature from University of Cincinnati where she met her husband, Louis Bernard Stant, a business major who took his young family around the world.  She taught elementary school at the American School in Japan, while the family lived there several years and then taught briefly in Korea. After returning to the United States, she earned a masters degree in Elementary Education from Butler University.  She taught in Zionsville Elementary before moving to Brown County where she taught in Nashville, Van Buren and Helmsburg Elementary Schools.  She retired from teaching in 1996 after her husband passed away. 

Nat had many interests and talents including sailing, tennis, sewing, puppetry and gourmet cooking. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting parties for her husband’s business associates at IBM. She was a member of Psi Iota Xi service sorority which supports community projects dear to her heart: music, literacy, speech and hearing. After retirement she spent time teaching in the local literacy program and was active in the local book club. She enjoyed classical music, attending the opera and supporting local musicians, holding recitals in her home for her sister Pat’s piano and violin students.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. David’s Episcopal Church: 11 W. State Road 45 in Bean Blossom, Indiana on Saturday September 9, 2023 at 2pm.  Donations can be made in her memory to St. David’s Episcopal Church.
