Mr. John Hickey Obituary

John L. Hickey, age 91 passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday morning, July 22, 2019 at his home in Morgantown.

He was born February 13, 1928, in Morgantown, to the late William "Earl" and Dorothy D. (David) Hickey. He was a 1946 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve in the United States Army as a Sergeant 1st Class during the Korean War. After his service, John married Suzanne Strode on February 27, 1955 in Morgantown. She lovingly survives after 64 devoted years of marriage.

John loved the community of Morgantown. Together, John and Suzanne raised their children on their family farm in Morgantown. He was a lifelong farmer and member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the American Legion, Morgantown Town Council, First State Bank Board of Directors and served as a Morgantown Trustee. John enjoyed working on his farm, fishing in Canada, mushroom hunting in Michigan, and collecting antique tractors. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing, riding horses and vacationing in Florida in the winter. Most of all, John enjoyed spending time with friends and family. John was privileged to partake in the Indy Honor Flight to see the memorials in Washington D.C. in October 2015.

John will be missed by his wife, Suzanne, children: LuAnne (Bob) Storms of Brownsburg, Roger (JoNell) Hickey of Morgantown and Lora (Bob) Busch of Franklin; grandchildren: Hannah (Jeremy) Abraham, Gretchen (Jared) Lucas both of Morgantown and Patia (George) Green of Natick, Massachusetts & Holly (Mike) Timko of Zionsville; and great-grandchildren: Ainsley Abraham, and Waylon Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: David E. Hickey.

The Rev. Ann Spahr will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 25th at the Morgantown United Methodist Church: 20 East Washington Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home: 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion.
