Michael Lafferty Obituary

Michael “Mike” R. Lafferty, age 66, passed away all too soon on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Morgan-Monroe State Forest in Martinsville. He was a resident of Brown County.

Mike was born October 23, 1954, in Bloomington to his parents, the late Tom and Joanne (Crawford) Lafferty. He was a 1972 graduate of University High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University and later obtained his Certified Public Accounting license. He married Marsha Bridges on June 6, 1981 on her father’s farm in Johnson County. She survives after 39 loving years of marriage.

Mike was a Certified Public Account, a Certified Fraud Examiner and was the Chief Financial Officer for Premier Ag. He was a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and was also on the board of directors for the Brown County Music Center in Nashville.

Mike led a very active lifestyle and had many hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors through back country and telemark skiing in Wyoming, fly fishing and water skiing at Lake Lemon and hiking and backpacking. Mike was an avid cyclist, completed many triathlons throughout his life and rode in several hilly hundreds with friends. He obtained his private pilot license with instrument rating and also obtained his Sea Captain License. Mike was the owner/operator of Captain Mike’s Fishing Charters at St. George Island, Florida. When not in the outdoors, he played the harmonica for a blues band in Brown County.

He will be missed by his wife Marsha of Brown County, and daughter Lauren and her husband, Matthew, Moore of Bloomington as well as several loving family members and friends.

In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated with a Celebration of Life service held at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
