Michael Hickman Obituary

Michael Lee ‘Mike’ Hickman, age 68 passed away Wednesday morning, January 6, 2021 at Community Heart & Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a longtime resident of Morgantown.

Mike was born January 16, 1952 in Franklin, to his parents, the late Robert L. ‘Bob’ and Joann (Kindle) Hickman. Mike was a 1972 graduate of Indian Creek High School and went on to serve as a Seaman with the United States Navy serving on the last wooden naval minesweeper the USS Engage MSO-433.

Mike was currently working for Direct Shot in Franklin as an Automation Technician for the past 6 years. Prior to that, he was the owner and operator of Morgantown Moco Gas Station (formerly known as the Morgantown Shell Station) for over 25 years. Mike also worked at Camp Atterbury with the ‘Civilians on the Battlefield’ program.

Mike was a member and served as a Deacon at the First Christian Church in Morgantown. He enjoyed volunteering for Kairos Prison Ministry of Indiana, riding his Harley and was a fan of NASCAR. Mike loved spending time with his family, especially his son, Michael.

He was preceded in death on July 22, 2016 by his loving wife of 34 years, Lucy E. (Gatewood) Hickman, whom he married on June 26, 1982 at the Cottonwood Christian Church in Brown County.  Mike was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Hickman.

He is survived by his son, Michael R. Hickman of Morgantown, siblings, Steve (Karen) Hickman of Morgantown, Mary Lou Lucas of Monrovia and Marsha (Keith) Martin of Athens, GA.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, he will be cremated with a Celebration of Life Service to be held at a future date. Cremation services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
