Melvina C. Waltz

Melvina C. ‘Mel’ Waltz, age 70, passed away Tuesday morning, August 3, 2021 at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital. She was a resident of Nashville.

Mel was born May 25, 1951 in Batesville to her parents, the late Lawrence M. and Bernice E. (Gagne) Waltz. She was a 1969 graduate of Brown County High School. She retired in 2013 from the Brown County Sheriffs Office, where she worked as a Jailer. Prior to that, Mel worked for Thompson Consumer Electronics in Bloomington as a Union Rep. and a Relief Operator.

She is survived by her children, Jason (Annie) Waltz of Nashville, DeAnna (Brent) Dersch of Nineveh and Steven (Ashley) Waltz of Morgantown; grandchildren, Michael Waltz, Austin Wells, Jayden Dersch, Gabrielle Dersch, Elizabeth Waltz and Aubrey Dersch; siblings, Michael Waltz of Flintstone, GA, Hiram (Lory) Waltz of Nashville, Lisa Cooper of Columbus, Lawrene (Mike) Brown of Dover, TN and Jeanette Waltz of Ft. Wayne.

Mel was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers.

She will be remembered for her love of drinking coffee and her excellent cooking and baking. Mel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil. Mel was a fan of old western television shows and Duck Dynasty.  

The Rev. Jim Ackerman will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 7 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
