Max Hayworth Obituary

Max Kenneth Hayworth, age 93 passed away on Wednesday morning, April 27, 2022 at his home in Morgantown.

He was born July 28, 1928 in Marion County, to his parents, the late Stephen F. and Amelia Katherine (Sims) Hayworth. He attended Morgantown High School and went on to serve in the United States Army as a Private First Class, helping with the incoming wounded soldiers during the Korean War.

Max retired after 27 years as a Truck Driver for Amoco Oil Company. Prior to retirement, he was the owner and operator of City Service Station in Morgantown during the 1950’s and also worked for George Canning Company in Trafalgar. After retirement, Max stayed busy, working for Stuart Moore Oil Corp. in Brazil, Indiana.

He was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church for over 40 years and was a former member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. Max enjoyed fishing, camping and collecting tractors and miniature cars. He loved his family and enjoyed riding his golf cart with his grandchildren. Max also enjoyed listening to country music, especially the older artist like Merle Haggard and Conway Twitty. He loved caring for his three dogs, Misty, Hannah and Meggie Rose.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Joan (Voiles) Hayworth, whom he married on May 15, 1955 in Morgantown. Max is also survived by his children, Michael Scott (Jennifer) Hayworth of Fort Worth, TX and Rhonda Elizabeth Hayworth-Tucker of Morgantown; grandchildren, Stephen Hayworth of Ft. Worth, TX, Daniel (Mattie) Hayworth of Killeen TX, Katherine Hayworth of San Antonio, TX, Isabella Tucker of Filmore, Noah Tucker and Sophia Tucker both of Morgantown; great grandson, Paxton Hayworth of Killeen, TX; brother, David (Victoria) Hayworth of Morgantown; sister-in-law, Nancy Hayworth of Bargersville; and nephews, Lowell Steven, Kevin and Darrel Hayworth, all of Brown County.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Jack, Donald ‘Termite’ and Jerry Hayworth, Barbara Porter and Nancy Hayworth; and a sister-in-law, LaDonna Hayworth,

The Rev. Ben Swopes will conduct a funeral service on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.  Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with Military Rites presented by the United States Army and the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
