Mary Lou (Forney) Slevin

Mary Lou (Forney) Slevin, age 87 passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 21, 2023 at her home in Franklin. She was a former resident of Brown County.

Mary was born September 2, 1935 in Indianapolis to her parents, the late Rupert O. and Lula P.  (Lawhorn) Forney. She was preceded in death on September 17, 1998 by her loving husband of 48 years, Luster ‘Buzz’ Slevin, whom she married on August 26, 1950 in Martinsville. Mary was also preceded in death by children, Michael Slevin, Betty Thornburg and infant daughter, Mary Slevin; siblings, Helen Earles, Sonia Novak, Rupert ‘Shorty' Forney and David Forney.

She retired in 2010 from Walmart in Franklin, where she worked as a cashier and stocker for over 15 years. Mary was a member of the Grace Assembly of God Church in Whiteland. She enjoyed traveling with her family to visit lighthouses and paddle boats. Mary was an avid reader of James Patterson crime mystery books and enjoyed genealogy.  

Mary is survived by her children, Ann Slevin of Hartford City, Judy (Larry) Summers of Trafalgar, Karen Slevin of Franklin, Tom Slevin of Franklin, Bobby (Colleen) Slevin of Brown County, John Slevin of Franklin & Paul Slevin of Franklin; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.

The Revs. Frank Criswell and David Hamilton will conduct a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Weeping Willow Cemetery in Brown County.
