Obituary

Mary Colleen (Fritch) Hollett, age 94, of Orange City, Florida died July 3, 2023 at Halifax Hospice Center in Orange City, FL. She was a former resident of Morgantown, Indiana

Born January 5, 1929 in Brown County, IN, she was the daughter of Clay and Dolly Fritch, both deceased.  She married the love of her life, Harmon Hollett on June 14, 1952.

After graduating from Brown County High School, she went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Education, and eventually her Masters, from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She finished her degree while raising four children with her husband.  She taught school for 18 years at Indian Creek Middle School in Trafalgar, IN.

After retiring, she and Harmon moved to Okeechobee, FL. Colleen and Harmon loved to travel, square dance, play cards, they were active in the church, and they especially loved to ride their Honda Goldwing.

Harmon passed away in March of 2001 in Okeechobee. Colleen needed something to keep her busy, so she remained active in church and joined the Citizen Observation Patrol, COP. She gained an extended family when she joined COP where she volunteered for 20 years eventually gaining the rank of Captain.  In 2017, she was named Volunteer of the Year for Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office.  She loved those she worked with, checking on other elderly, and all the services they provided.

Colleen also continued to enjoy traveling.  She went all over the world both by air, cruises and driving with friends and family.  She felt that traveling was one of the greatest forms of education and loved to experience new adventures.

Colleen is survived by her children and their spouses, Gary C. Hollett of Morgantown, IN, Linda G. Moore of Deltona, FL, Cheryl and husband Donald Basham of Fort Worth, TX and Janet and husband Dewayne Bess of Franklin, IN; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by not only her parents and husband but also two grandsons, Travis Brown & Christopher Hollett; and a great-grandson Evan VanVlaenderen.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a graveside service on August 5th at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Cemetery, 6758 Bear Creek Road in Brown County. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
