Mary J. (McDivitt) Brown, age 71 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday afternoon, November 17, 2023 from her home in Brown County.
Mary will forever be remembered as a devoted preacher’s wife for over 50 years, a loving mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She will also be remembered for caring for those in need and always putting others first in her life.
Mary was born December 18, 1951 in Richmond, to her parents, the late Gene and Tampa (Swallow) McDivitt. She attended Spiceland High School in Spiceland, Indiana. Mary worked in Ministry with her husband and played the church piano at the Bean Blossom Baptist Church in Brown County since 1972. Mary previously worked as an Elementary Teacher at both the Bean Blossom Baptist Church School and the Faithway Christian Church School in Indianapolis.
She enjoyed tending to her garden, canning, cooking & baking for her family. Mary also enjoyed sewing, spending time with her family and loved being a grandmother.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Rev. James W. Brown, whom she married on June 29, 1968 in Spiceland. They were blessed with four children, James (Sonya) Brown of Mooresville, Jonathan (Brandi) Brown of Brown County, Jennifer (Rob) Richardson of Brown County & Jessica (Todd) Coe of Georgia; siblings, Sheryl Roland of Knightstown, Linda Thomas of Tennessee & Pam McDivitt of Florida; grandchildren, Rachel Law, Grace (Nathan) Proud, Kirstie (Alex) Benedum, Katie Brown, Maggie Brown, Robert Brown, Clara Mae (Corey) Van Wye, Liberty Brown, Esther Brown, Joshia Brown, Garrett (Taylor) Brown, Zach Brown, Ezra (Mikaela) Scully, Sara (James) Rasmussen, Austin Knapp & Addie Coe ; great grandchildren, Eva Law, Violet Proud, David Proud, Sampson Proud, Ephraim Proud, Miriam Proud, Guinevere Proud, Aubrey Roberts, Evan Roberts, Charlotte Rasmussen, Stetson Brown, Adeline Benedum, Houston Meyer & Melody Van Wye; she was mamaw to Rachel Davis & Bethany McBride; and great mamaw to Jedidiah & Joshua Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Bob McDivitt, Karen Wright, Jim McDivitt, Tom McDivitt & Vicki Johnson; and a grandson, Jason Richardson.
The Rev. Brian McBride will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Bean Blossom Baptist Church, 5858 Spearsville Road in Brown County. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
