Marilyn Cole Obituary

Marilyn Sue (Craig) Cole, age 75 passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, June 6, 2021.She was a resident of Manilla and a former resident of Shelby County and Brown County.

Marilyn was born August 29, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri to her parents, the late Monroe Henry and Martha Evelyn (Allen) Craig.  She was a 1963 graduate of Warrenton High School. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wilkinson and a former member of the Fairview United Methodist Church in Fairland.

Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her husband and together they visited 47 of the 50 states. She also enjoyed playing Scrabble, reading, making family photo albums, going on family camping trips, listening to music, growing flowers and fishing. Marilyn will be remembered for her sense of humor and her excellent cooking, especially her sandwiches and biscuits & gravy. Her true passion was her love and devotion for her entire family and spoiling her grandchildren, “With anything their little hearts desired.”  

Marilyn was preceded in death on April 11, 2018 by her loving husband of 53 years, Alvy Thomas ‘Tom’ Cole, whom she married on June 24, 1964 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Craig.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Tammy (John) Sonday of Shelby County and Stephen ‘Steve’ (Cindy Bancroft) Cole of Columbus; grandchildren, Amber Moore of Franklin, Ashley (Lonny) Bierman of Manilla, Alicia (Eddie) Saylor and Addy Courtney both of Shelby County, James Adam (Marisa Maple) Cole of Milroy, Steven Melton of Bloomington, Nick (Hillary) Sexton of Kentucky and Danielle Vestal of Indianapolis; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; siblings, Eugene (Helen) Craig, Gary (Kathy) Craig, Nancy (Mark) Bales and Sandra “Sandy” Alexander, all of Missouri, Ray Craig of Goshen and Eddie Craig of Bloomington; sister in law, Rita Craig of Nebraska.

Pastor Jolita Erbele will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
