Marilyn Aldrich Obituary

Marilyn S. (Paddock) Aldrich, passed away peacefully in her 100th year on Tuesday morning, March 10, 2020 at Grand Valley Health & Rehab in Martinsville. She was a resident of Bargersville.

Marilyn was born August 12, 1919 in Marion County to her parents, the late Jacob and Opal L. (Sells) Paddock. She married James Albert Aldrich on September 1, 1936 in Marion County.  He preceded her in death in October of 1976 after 40 devoted years of marriage.

Marilyn was also preceded in death by sons, Jerry Aldrich and Michael Aldrich; siblings, Raymond Paddock, Tom Paddock, Jean Patterson, Peggy Sutton and Emma Medsker; grandchildren, Kevin Stropes and Tom Stropes; and great grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Mitchell, Kimberly Sue Stropes and infant twins, Autumn Joy Stropes and Ashlynn Kimberly Stropes.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Legan of Singer Island, Fl, Carolyn Sue (Kim) Stropes of Bargersville and Brenda Hess of Martinsville; ten grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She worked hard on the family farm raising milking cows, hogs, chickens and ducks. Marilyn enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, and spending time with her family reminiscing about her childhood and the great depression. Her grandchildren often referred to her as the ‘Old Pioneer Woman.” She was a fan of political talk shows on television and the Trucker Radio Show on 700 AM. Marilyn also enjoyed reading mystery and crime novels.     

A funeral service will be held on Friday at noon at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
