Marcia I. (Durham) Ellis

Marcia I. (Durham) Ellis, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, August 7, 2023 at her son’s home in Spencer. She was a former resident of Morgantown.

Marcia was born April 20, 1946 in Danville, to her parents, the late Clayton and Vera Irene (Eggers) Durham. She grew up in Brown County, attended Brown County High School, and later earned her diploma from American School in Chicago in 1966. She married David H. Ellis on November 15, 1964 in Brown County and together they were blessed with four children. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2015 after 50 loving years of marriage.

Marcia was a member of the Morgantown General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. She was active in the church and her best advice was to “Serve the Lord and trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Marcia also enjoyed gardening, reading and working on crafts of all kinds especially, painting and sewing. 

Marcia will be missed by her children: Greg (Jaime Kelp) Ellis of Columbus, Jerry (Maria Winders) Ellis of Spencer and Shaun Ellis of San Diego, California; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and siblings, Nina White of Salem and Denise Bowling of Muldrow, Oklahoma.

Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Ellis; daughter, Candy Hamm and siblings, Juanita Branham, Faylene Roberts, Jerry Durham, Martha Hunt, Vivian Hawkins and Barbara Widhelm.

Bros. Stan White and Rodger Bunch will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
