Louie R. "Rudy" Crabtree

Louie R. “Rudy” Crabtree, age 79 passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 9, 2023 at Brown County Health & Living in Nashville. He was a lifetime resident of Nashville.

Rudy was born April 3, 1944 to his parents, the late Louie R. and Beula (Taggart) Crabtree. He was a 1962 graduate of Brown County High School and went on earn his Master’s in Health Education from the Indiana State University. While at Indiana State he played on the basketball team wearing the original 33 numbered jersey. Rudy retired in 1999 from Brown County High School, where he worked for over 33 years teaching Physical Education, Health and Drivers Education. Rudy also spent many years coaching basketball, track and golf.  

He was proud to be born and raised in Brown County and will forever be known as a “True Brown Countian”. Rudy attended the Cottonwood Christian Church in Brown County. He enjoyed playing golf, watching football and was a fan of Indiana University Men’s Basketball & the Indianapolis Colts. Rudy also loved caring for many dogs and cats.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sharon E. (Hughes) Crabtree, whom he married on July 27, 1990 at Lutheran Church in Brown County. Rudy is also survived by his daughters, Lisa (Kevin) McMullen of Westfield, Amy (Jeff) Alfrey of Brown County & Jennifer (Jeremy) Burton of Indianapolis; son, Brian (Jill) Gould of Westfield, grandchildren, Kylie (Kyle) Hennie, Erin McMullen, Brady McMullen, Wyatt Smith, Dylan Alfrey, Andrew Gould, Matthew Gould, William Gould, Evan Burton, Amelia Elaine Burton & Isaac Burton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mary Elizabeth Banister, Harold Crabtree, Quenton “Joe” Crabtree, Lee Crabtree, Preston Crabtree, Billy Crabtree, Lillian Richards, Mae Miller & Eloise “Nip” Jones Skinner.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration Gathering on Saturday, November 18th starting at 1 p.m. at the Salt Creek Golf Retreat Clubhouse, 2359 St. Rd. 46 in Nashville. The Rev. Darrell Miller will conduct a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. 

Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Rudy to the Brown County Humane Society, 128 State Road 135 South, Nashville, IN 47448.
