Larry L. Chapman, age 73 passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 12, 2021 at his home in Trafalgar.
He was born on February 7, 1948 in Indianapolis to his parents, the late Lester Claude and Bernice Mae (Baker) Chapman. Larry was a 1966 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Specialist 4 with the HHB, 1st Armored Division Artillery of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Larry retired in 1997 as a Welder from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus after 31 years of service. During the 1990’s, he was the owner and operator of Chapman Trucking of Trafalgar and Chapman Racing.
Larry was a 20-year member of the Morgantown General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. He was baptized along with his son, Larry Wayne, on July 21, 2000 at sister Doris White’s pond. Larry was also a 30 year member of the Camon Masonic Lodge #343 in Hope and a member of the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. He enjoyed sprint car racing, restoring old corvettes and farming. Larry loved spending time with his family and church family.
He was preceded in death on December 19, 1999 by his loving wife of 25 years, Rebecca A. ‘Becky’ (Hicks) Chapman, whom he married on July 19, 1974 in Trafalgar. Larry was also preceded by a sister, Carla Chapman; sister-in-law, Cindy Hicks; and brother-in-law, Tom Hicks.
He is survived by his son, Larry Wayne (Sondra) Chapman of Morgantown; siblings, Shirley (George) Zupancic, Steven (Angie) Chapman and Rick (Dorinda) Chapman, all of Morgantown; sisters-in-law Susan (Larry) Hall and Kathy (Mike) Wilkinson, both of Trafalgar and Betty (Ronnie Carter) Moore of Tennessee as well as several nieces and nephews.
Bro. Rodger Bunch will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
