Keith J. Kirk, age 85, passed away peacefully with his children by his side on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at his home in Nashville. He was a former resident of Morristown.
Keith was born November 7, 1935, in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late Royal B. and Anna Mildred (Lee) Kirk. He was a 1953 graduate of Broad Ripple High School and went on to serve as Specialist Third Class with the 84th Field Artillery Regiment of the United States Army during the Korean War.
After serving his country, Keith married Kathleen "Kathy" A. Foster on July 28, 1960 in Indianapolis and together they raised two children; Brian and Jane. Kathy preceded him in death on May 31, 2011 after 50 loving years of marriage.
Keith retired in 1990 from the Skilled Maintenance Department of International Harvester after 30 years of service. Keith tended to his family farm in Morristown, growing various crops and raising cattle. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his willingness to volunteer in the Brown County area when needed. Keith was a member of the Morristown American Legion Post 102, Brown County Fair Board, Brown County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Brown County Historical Society, as well as, the Monroe County Master Gardener Association.
In his spare time, Keith enjoyed welding, gardening and watching fishing/nature programs as well as military history shows on tv.
He will be missed by his children: Brian (Marjorie) Kirk of Columbus, Ohio and Jane (Brad) Lyman of LaGrange, Kentucky; siblings: Floyd (Cathy) Dunham of Indianapolis and William (June) Dunham of Nashville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Harold Shoultz of Columbus; grandchildren: Abigail Lyman, Emily Baus, Haley Lyman, Damien, Eli, and Sophie Kirk, great grandchildren: Paige and Ian Bartlett and Lucas Baus and his beloved 4-legged companion: Roxy.
Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; father, Royal B. Kirk; mother, Anna M. (Lee) Dunham; brother Phillip Kirk.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 27th at 7 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be presented by the United States Army and the Brown County Honor Guard.
