Julie Heilwagen Obituary

With friends and family gathered around her, Julie R. (Arnold) Heilwagen, age 59, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2021 in her Indianapolis home after a one year battle with lung cancer.

Born November 28, 1961 in Franklin, Julie was a 1980 graduate of Indian Creek High School and went on to study Psychology at IUPUI in Indianapolis.

Julie had a successful career in the Natural Gas Industry.  Over the past 32 years, she worked for such companies as Indiana Gas, Duke Energy, Pinnacle Energy, BP-Canada.  She was currently employed with Direct Energy in Indianapolis as a Senior Gas Scheduler.

Julie was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Morgantown.  More than anything, she loved traveling with her husband and family, both in the U.S. and abroad.  With her family by her side, Julie hiked the Colorado Rockies, rafted the whitewater rapids of West Virginia, hiked to the summit of Mt. Lee and stood beneath the letters of the Hollywood Sign, climbed the steps of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, rode cable cars in San Francisco, attended countless Broadway musicals during their many trips to New York City, and pedaled a bicycle through Central Park, and across the Brooklyn Bridge.  Her life was truly one of selfless love and adventure.

In August of 2019, Julie and David enjoyed a two-week Alaskan-Canadian Cruise with cousins Curt and Kay Richter.

Julie will be remembered for her infectious smile, outgoing personality, and her unique way of finding good in every person or situation she encountered.  She never met a stranger, and her absence leaves a void in the lives of friends and family.

Julie is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, David E. Heilwagen; whom she married on July 20, 1985 in Morgantown. She is also survived by her loving parents, Robert B. ‘Bob’ and Frieda M. (Schroeder) Arnold of Morgantown; children, Tara Heilwagen of Chicago, IL and Brad (Sara) Heilwagen of Smyrna, TN; brother, Jeff (Lesa) Arnold of Morgantown; grandchildren, Adam and Alison Heilwagen of Smyrna; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Heilwagen of Greenwood; sister-in-law, Cynthia Gregory of Greenwood; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Robert Heilwagen.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, February 27,2021 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church, 2717 S. Morgantown Road in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday February 26 at the church. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
