Jessie L. (Watkins) Hensley

Jessie L. (Watkins) Hensley, age 100, passed away Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Florida Medical Center Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  She was a resident of Ft. Lauderdale. and former resident of Trafalgar.

She was born July 29, 1919, in Solsberry, Indiana to her parents, the late Elmer and Julia (McDaniel) Watkins. After graduating from high school, Jessie went on to earn a degree in education from Central Normal College. She married Jewell Hensley on June 14, 1942 in Hopewell. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1995 after 53 devoted years of marriage.

Jessie was a 1st grade teacher at Hopewell Elementary School from 1938-1968 and retired in 1979 from Trafalgar Elementary School after 8 years of service.  She was a member of the Trafalgar Christian Church and of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Jessie enjoyed helping on the family farm, watching basketball and traveling on cruises around the world.  She loved spending time in the outdoors and was still hiking mountainous terrain at the age of 82.

She will be missed by her nieces:  Annette Scott of Ft. Lauderdale, Raye Ann Cox of Bloomington Louise Wiles of Newark, nephew: Rex (Gale) Petro of Umatilla and several great nieces and nephews.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Jewell and siblings: Audie Watkins Daisy Petro, Mary Tharpe, Robert Watkins, and Lmarie Fodrill.

The Rev. Brian Clark will conduct a funeral service on 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12th  Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
