Jane Powers

Jane (Kerkhof) Powers, age 66, passed away Tuesday evening, September 19, 2017 at her home in Trafalgar.

Jane was born on August 4, 1951, in Seymour, to the late Palois D. and Ruth E. (Zimmerman) Kerkhof. She was a 1969 graduate of Seymour High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in 1973 from Indiana University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling in 1982 from Butler University.

Jane’s medical career took her to Community Hospitals where she was employed as a Medical Social Worker for twenty-four years. She covered Counseling Services at the South and East Campuses. Jane joined with Indiana University’s Simon Cancer Center in 2001 where she continued to specialize in Oncology Social Services until she retired in 2010.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William F. “Bill” Powers whom she married on July 2, 1977 in Indianapolis. Jane is also survived by siblings: Mary (Allan) Ellen Snyder & Joe (Jane) W. Kerkhof, both of Seymour; niece, Susan Snyder of Greenwood and a nephew, Scott Snyder of Greenwood.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister: Elizabeth Kerkhof.

Jane was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church since 2000 where she was the Disciples Class Teacher and served on the Worship and Communion Committees. She enjoyed quilting, traveling, gardening and riding her horse “Mikey”.

The Rev. Ann Spahr will conduct a Celebration of Life service at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Morgantown United Methodist Church, 20 E. Washington Street in Morgantown

. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith – Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
