James F. Haley

James F. ‘Jim’ Haley, age 78 passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, January 6, 2022 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Trafalgar.

Jim was born January 19, 1943 in Seymour, to his parents, the late Fred and Bertha (Smith) Haley. He was 1961 graduate of Southport High School and went on to study Elementary Education at Northern Iowa University. Jim served as a Machinists Mate Third Class on the USS Trigger SS-564 submarine with the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967.

He was the retired owner and operator of Haley Mechanical Contracting. Prior to that, he operated and managed several Haley Amoco and Sunoco Gas Stations in Indianapolis. Jim enjoyed fishing, rabbit hunting and drag racing at Bean Blossom Drag Strip. He also enjoyed being a mechanic, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Bette J. (Sanders) Haley, whom he married on November 13, 1982 in Indianapolis. James is also survived by his children, Kelly Lynn (Max) Mueller & Mike (Patty) Brooks, both of Greenwood and Sunny (Rick) Trisler of Franklin; grandchildren, Sierra, Sydney and Shelby; great-grandchildren, Brook and Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elizabeth Ann Ebanks; and his beloved dog, Buddy.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery in Brown County with military rites presented by the Brown County Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
