James Robert Childs Jr.

James Robert Childs, Jr., age 70 passed away peacefully on Monday evening, March 27, 2023 at his home in Indianapolis.

JR was born March 13, 1953 in Indianapolis, to his parents, the late James R. and Dora E. (Hollan) Childs Sr. He was a 1971 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and went on to proudly serve his country with the United States Marine Corps, where he worked surveillance and in the Marine Division Recon.

Following his Marine Corps career, JR spent his time with Step Up Ministries through the Living Water Ministry in Indianapolis. He also spent time with the jail ministries and several other outreach programs in churches throughout Indianapolis. He had training in several areas including Rehab Training and Biblical Studies.

He will be missed by his children, Alisha (Tonya) Childs, Heather (Bobby) Marks, Lovena (Eddie Waldo) Hunter, Loretta (Jamey Key) Fleming and Darrell Manuel Sr.; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and siblings: Robert “Bobby” Joe Childs Sr., Robin E. Childs, Roger A. Childs, Gregory L. Childs and Jerry C. Childs.

JR was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Noretta “Diane” Spurlock Wilkerson, Ronald Lee Childs and Donald Lee Childs, a grandson and a great-great grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5th at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
