Hershel Giles Obituary

Hershel D. Giles, age 63 passed away all too soon on Monday morning, November 14, 2022 at his home in Martinsville. He was a former resident of Nineveh.

Hershel was born on July 3, 1959 in Franklin to his parents, the late William Cecil and Bertha (Burton) Giles Sr. He was a 1977 graduate of Indian Creek High School and went on to study Building Trades at Ivy Tech. Hershel was a very talented, self-employed framer. Building homes in Johnson, Morgan and Brown Counties.

He will be remembered for his love of family & friends and always willing to help those in need. Hershel enjoyed cruising in his 72 Chevy Nova, boating, skiing, mushroom hunting and tending to his vegetable garden. He was a fan of NASCAR with his favorite drivers being Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Chase Elliott. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children. Hershel also enjoyed wood working, IU Men’s Basketball and caring for his german shepherd, Pal.  

He is survived by his children, Joshua Giles of Indianapolis & Shelby Giles of Royal Oak, MI; life partner, Teresa Woods of Martinsville, and her children, Michelle (Ryan) Dyer of Martinsville & Michael (Jess) Woods of Freedom; grandchildren, Zach & Eli Dyer and Hayden Woods; siblings, Bernadean Myers of Greenwood, Alice (Pat) Poynter of Greenwood, Donna (Leroy) Wesley of Franklin, Danny (Tammy) Giles of Seymour, Jeanine (Johnny) Myers of Greenwood, Joyce (Lew) Rogers of Georgia, Ronnie (Jane) Giles of Franklin and Randy (John) Giles of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

Hershel was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Evelyn Duncan and Wm. ‘Cecil’ Giles Jr.

The Rev. David Storvick will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
