George E. Lockhart, age 84 passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023 at IU Health in Bloomington. He was a resident of Unionville.
George was born February 22, 1939 in Indianapolis, to the late Eugene Morton and Ethel (Clark) Lockhart. George retired in 1999 as a Supervisor for Atlas Construction Company in Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Indiana Operators Union Local 103, for over 60 years. He was a 20-year member of the Brown County Community Church. George also held memberships with the Brown County Historical Society, Brown County Masonic Lodge #135, former Millersville Masonic Lodge #136 and was a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly D. (Russell) Lockhart, whom he married on August 30, 1958 in Indianapolis. George is also survived by his son, Kevin Eugene (Carol) Lockhart of Martinsville; grandchildren, Christina (Daniel) Mason-Lockhart of Indianapolis, James Lockhart of Mooresville, Michael (Diedra) Massaro of Carmel, Christopher (Darby) Massaro of Alabama, Debbie (Mark) Frost of Mooresville & David (Tammy) Minardo of Martinsville; 14 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberlee Lockhart-Massaro; and brothers, Eugene Morton & Larry Edward Lockhart.
George grew up in Broad Ripple and was on the 1956 Championship football team. He passed the love of this sport onto his grandson, Christopher Massaro, who played center for the University of Indianapolis in 2015. This made football one of his favorite past times, especially if the San Francisco 49ers were playing. George loved being on the water, whether he was jet skiing in his younger days, fishing on the beaches of Gulf Shores or just boating on Lake Lemon during his retirement years. George also enjoyed deer hunting, wood working and operating a front-end loader.
