Elmer C. Elliott, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Community Heart & Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Edinburgh.
Elmer was born October 13, 1933, in Stevenson, Alabama to his parents, the late Benjamin T. and Meadie (Tucker) Elliott. He married Gracie S. Dillard on April 25, 1953 in Columbus and together they raised three sons. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2010 after 57 loving years of marriage.
Elmer was a Boiler Operator for Amos Hill Lumber Mill in Edinburgh for over 30 years.
He grew up learning how to work hard and felt it was important to instill this quality in his children and grandchildren. Elmer enjoyed gardening, canning and hunting. His grandchildren remember his love for gardening and growing the biggest pumpkins around, weighing over 200 pounds! He loved to travel with his late wife, Gracie, with some of their favorite destinations being the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls. He also enjoyed spending many summers fishing in Alabama.
He is survived by his sons: Elmer (Darla) Elliott Jr of Portland, OR, and Ronnie (Sue) Elliott of Seattle, Washington, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Nellie Norton, Dorothy (Chester) Chandler, and Ray (Mary) Elliott all of Edinburgh.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gracie, son Bruce Elliott and siblings: Jack Elliott, Rosie Brothers, Elsie Prater and William Elliott.
In keeping with his wishes, Elmer will be cremated. A graveside inurnment will take place at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh. Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
