Ed Willis, age 75 passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 10, 2012 in Mission, TX, where he and his wife were wintering. Ed was a resident of Morgantown.
He was born January 15, 1937 in Fairmont, WV to the late John D. and Ruth V. (Marsh) Willis. Ed served his country as a Specialist 4 with the United State Army from 1960 to 1962. He married his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Lair on June 16, 1956 in Indianapolis. She survives.
Ed was the devoted father to: Glenda M. (husband, Mike) Lee of Trafalgar and Eddie (wife, Tiffany) Willis of Morgantown. He will be remembered by his grandchildren: Lauren, Josh, & Aaron Lee, Jake, Sam & Joey Willis; and his two sisters: Jo Evener of Jacksonville, OH and Vickie Newman of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Betty Russell, Lois Evans, Fran Lee & Barb Holdcroft; four brothers: Johnny, Gene, Terry & Dave Willis.
Ed retired in 2000 as a Union Painting Contractor with the Painter's Local #47 in Indianapolis, after 46 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Morgantown, the Local Painter's #47 and a past member of the Martinsville American Legion. Ed enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking for his family, which he was known for his homemade spaghetti sauce. Ed loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and enjoyed making wine.
The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 pm, Friday at Meredith – Clark Funeral Home,179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Visitation for friends & family will be from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be from 4 to 9 pm on Thursday at Flanner & Buchanan – Decatur Funeral Home, 5463 Kentucky Ave. in Indianapolis. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown with military rites presented by the Martinsville American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
