Dora Adams Obituary

Dora (Dory) Giffin Adams, age 81, passed away from an infection on Thursday, May 4. In the final few years of her life she suffered from dementia. Dory is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother, her husband, Kenneth Adams, and their son, Jon Adams. Dory is survived by her daughter, Danielle Greene, her husband, Michael Greene, four step-grandchildren, James (Stefanie), Parker, Austin, Cayman (Christina), four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Alexa, Lily and Myla, her younger sister, Billie, and many nieces and nephews.

Dory was born and raised in Mooresville, IN. She and Kenneth lived in Indianapolis before moving to Bloomington, IN in 1971. In 1978 the family moved to Albuquerque, NM. When Kenneth and Dory retired they hit the road in an RV, returning to live in Albuquerque in 2007.

She loved the mountains and desert weather. Dory was a snow skier, hiked and backpacked through many of the mountains in New Mexico, rode dirt bikes and snowmobiles and was a runner, completing two half marathons.

Dory retired from PNM in 2005 after working as an administrative assistant and working her way up to be an administrator in the governance department.

The most important thing in the world to Dory was family. She and Kenneth were married in 1965 until Kenneth’s passing in 2007. They cared for their son, Jon, who was profoundly handicapped, in their home until he was 27. As challenging as caring for Jon could be at times, Dory found a way to be an amazing mom to Danielle.

Dory was a wonderful and loyal friend to many and most of her friends and family would tell you she was one of the strongest people they knew. She was beautiful inside and out and will be greatly missed.

The family asks for donations to the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, Robert Wertheim Hospice House in lieu of flowers, www.phs.org/give.

A graveside service will be held in Morgantown, IN at East Hill Cemetery on Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. where Dory will be interred with Kenneth and Jon. Graveside services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
