Donald L. Thompson

Donald L. “Don” Thompson, age 87 passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 21, 2023 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Bargersville.

Don was born May 28, 1936 in Parma, Missouri to his parents, the late Jesse Clifford and Grace (Dunn) Thompson. Don proudly served his country as a Private First Class with the United States Marine Corp. While serving his country, he married Lorraine J. Spears on December 10, 1955 at Alkol, West Virginia and they were blessed with four children. She lovingly survives him after 67 devoted years of marriage.

Don retired in 1993 from Ernstine Construction Company as a cement finisher and carpenter after 38 years of service. He belonged to the Carpenters Local Union 301. Don enjoyed spending time in the outdoors by rabbit and coon hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He will be missed by his wife, Lorraine Thompson of Bargersville; children, Debra (Terry) Coontz of Atwater, Ohio, Loretta (Roy) Perry of Martinsville, and Angela Thompson of Mooresville; grandchildren, Jason Coontz of Atwater, Ohio and Kristen Perry of Mooresville, 12 great grandchildren; and brother Robert Thompson of Kentucky.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, son Donald “Joe” Thompson and siblings, Clifford “Gene” Thompson, Ralph Thompson and Lois Gobin and 2 grandchildren, Joshua Coontz and Travis Perry.

A private graveside service will be held at Harris Cemetery in Bargersville with military rites presented by the United States Marine Corps and the local honor guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.
