David "Steve" Young

David Stephen “Steve” Young, age 76 passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 7, 2023 at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. He was a resident of Morgantown.

Steve was born December 23, 1946 in Morgantown, to his parents, the late David and Edith M.  (Everling) Young. He was a 1965 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to serve as a Specialist 5 Supply Clerk with the 70th Medical Depot stationed at Okinawa, Japan with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Steve was a retired Bus Driver, working for both Nineveh Hensley Jackson School Corporation and Trailways Charter Bus Service. Prior to that, he worked in the Appliance Department at Sears in Greenwood.

Steve was a member of the First Christian Church in Morgantown and a former NHJ School Board Member. He enjoyed the outdoors by working in his yard, mowing and fishing. Steve was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts and IU Men’s Basketball.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy (Stout) Young, whom he married on February 27, 2010 in Franklin. Steve is also survived by his son, Brandon Young of Morgantown; siblings, Gerald (Linda) Young of South Carolina, Raymond (Sue) Young & Loretta (Glenn) Wilkerson all of Morgantown; sister-in-law, Ginny Delk of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Emma Cummings of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Megan E. Cummings.

Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be presented by the United States Army and the Martinsville American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards.
