David R. Smith

David R. Smith, age 77, passed away all too soon on Saturday morning, May 23, 2020 at his home in Morgantown.

He was born March 17, 1943 in Morgantown to his parents, the late Nathan E. “Bud” and Bertha A. (Huffman) Smith. David was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School and went on to retire in 1992 from Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus after 32 years of service.

David attended the First Christian Church of Morgantown and was a former member of the Morgantown Baptist Church. He was also a former member of the Free & Accepted Masons, Murat Shrine and the Scottish Rite.

David enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda, visiting Las Vegas, Scottsdale, AZ and going on several cruises. His true passion was working on his family farm raising cattle and crops. David was a fan of Indiana University Men’s Basketball and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda S. (Flanary) Smith, whom he married on August 23, 1973 in Columbus. David is also survived by his children, Scott (Nina) Smith and Kenny (Lisa) Smith, both of Morgantown; step children, Kim (Tim) Shope of Scottsdale, AZ and Chris (Kelly) Anderson of Columbus; brother, Mike (Sharon) Smith of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Kenzi, Cassie and Marissa Smith, Kara and Hobie Crittenden, Valerie Auten, Holly, Sydney, Gwendolyn and Annabelle Anderson; and great grandchildren, Shelby and Ashton Sychtysz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Wanda (Thompson) Smith; daughter, Kimberly Lynn Smith; siblings, Maurice Smith, Don Smith, Jimmy Dale Smith and Karen Sue Smith.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.COVID-19 restrictions will apply.
