Darlene Hoffman Obituary

Darlene Marie (Planchon) Hoffman, age 77, passed away on Thursday morning, June 30, 2022, at the Hearthstone Health Campus in Bloomington where she was a resident the last two years. She previously lived in Ladoga and Danville, Indiana.  Before moving to Indiana, she lived in California for 29 years.

Darlene was born February 6, 1945, in Santa Ana, California to her parents, the late Dewitt David “Dewey” and Lula May (Hart) Planchon.  She was a 1962 graduate of Santa Ana Valley High School in Santa Ana, California, and went on to attend Fullerton Jr. College in California. She later graduated from Beauty College in Indianapolis in 1982.

She married Carl Keith Hoffman on April 13, 1962, in Santa Ana, California.  He preceded her in death on March 13th, 2020, after nearly 58 years of marriage.

Darlene assisted businesses in secretarial and accounting jobs.  Later, she worked as a cosmetologist at multiple locations in Indiana.  Her and her husband managed assisted living facilities at Arbor Glen (Fort Wayne, IN) and later at Redbud Hills (Bloomington, IN).

Darlene was a faithful servant of God and attended Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California, during the 70’s. She was a member of Lakeview Church Indianapolis, IN, from 1976-2000, then moved with a new church plant to Avon, IN, Crossroads Church. After moving to Ladoga, she attended Calvary Chapel, Crawfordsville, IN. She was a Bible study and worship leader, VBS teacher, traveled and sang with multiple church choirs, duets and trios as well as played the piano. Alongside her husband at Crossroads Church, they led in home Life Groups. Darlene also personally led a group of people leaving addiction through Rick Warren’s program, Celebrate Recovery. She also spent time volunteering with the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Darlene loved supporting various missions and leading others to the Lord both at home and work.  She provided her own home to many homeless and mentally challenged persons and faithfully addressed their every need. She will be remembered most for her strong devotion and love of family, her desire to help others, as well as her unyielding faith to the Lord.

In her free time, Darlene daily studied the Bible and Jewish history, and attended several local Bible studies through the decades.  She enjoyed oil painting, crafting, home decorating, sewing and teaching English to foreigners through Lakeview Church. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Spending time with her kids and grandkids warmed her heart the most.

She will be missed by her children Tammy, husband Tim, Perry of Bloomington, and Colonel Randy Hoffman (USMC Ret), wife Dawn, Hoffman of Tallahassee, Florida; grandchildren, Derek Perry, Morgan Cooper, Shawn Hoffman, Caroline Riegert and Emma Hoffman; 4 great grandchildren: Chloe, Levi, Hazel Perry and Hayes Cooper.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, and siblings Floyd Planchon, Mary Lawson and Donald Planchon.

Her husband Carl passed during COVID and due to restrictions a service wasn’t possible at that time. Now with Darlene’s passing, a Celebration of Life service will be held at Crossroads Church, Avon, Indiana, for both Carl and Darlene on October 1, 2022, at 3:00 PM. Private burial for both will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Cartersburg, IN. Arrangements were entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be sent in memory of both Carl & Darlene to Samaritan’s Purse, Wounded Warrior Project, Vantage Point Foundation, Crisis Pregnancy Center, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, and the ACLJ.
