Dallas Platter Obituary

Dallas R. Platter, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, December 9, 2019 at his home in Brown County.

Dallas was born January 19, 1943, in Fort Wayne, to his parents the late Guy and Cecilia (Voroil) Platter. Dallas graduated from Avilla High School in 1961 and went on to attend International Business College in Fort Wayne. While attending school, Dallas joined and served in the Indiana National Guard. He married Cheryl C. Greeley on April 5, 1964 and together they raised three children. She lovingly survives after 55 devoted years of marriage.

Dallas retired in 2001 from the Parts Department at Navistar in Indianapolis after 30 years of service. His hobbies included hunting and target shooting with his fire arms and shot guns, and he enjoyed working on vehicles as well as building dragster cars and an orange Willys Jeep Truck. Dallas was an animal lover, enjoyed watching Sci-Fi films and will be remembered most for his ability to fix anything. He was a member of St. Mary’s Avilla and will be greatly missed by many family and friends.

Dallas is survived by his wife Cheryl Platter of Fort Wayne, children: Guy (Rachel) Platter of Fort Wayne and Darin (Michelle) Platter of Nashville; grandchildren: Guy Dallas, Noble, Joy, Eve, Boone, Zachary “Father Nickolas”, Haley, River, Madison and Gabriel; brother: Larry Platter as well as several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kelly Neilson and brother Dennis Platter.

Fr. Jacob Runyon will conduct a graveside inurnment at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 3rd at the Divine Mercy Catholic Cemetery: 3500 Lake Avenue in Fort Wayne. Cremation Services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home in Morgantown. To reduce the spread of COVID-19 and follow the mandate by the Governor of Indiana, all visitors will be required to provide and wear their own face covering and maintain social distancing.
