Michael "Mike" D. Day

Michael D. ‘Mike’ Day, age 70, passed away Tuesday morning, October 22, 2019 at his home in Morgantown.

He was born August 17, 1949 in Beech Grove to his parents, Luther V. and Mary (White) Day Jr. Mike was a 1968 graduate of Brown County High School and went on to serve as a Private with the United States Army.

He retired in 2012 as Sergeant for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department after 12 years of services. Mike was also the owner and operator of Day’s Stump Removal in Morgantown for the past 33 years.

He was a 57 year member of the Morgantown General Assembly & Church of the Firstborn where he served as a Bishop. Mike was also serving as the President of the Morgantown Town Council. He was proud to help establish a Church of the Firstborn in Tennessee where he traveled endlessly when needed. He enjoyed playing his mandolin and guitar, singing, reading his Bible and sharing the gospel.

Mike also enjoyed spending time with his family, church family and especially his grandchildren. He was a fan of western movies and novels by Louis L’Amour. Mike will be remembered for always keeping his motorcycle and truck spotless.

Mike is survived by his mother, Mary (Jim) Slusher of Southern Indiana; his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Karen (Lynch) Day, whom he married on October 12, 1973 in Indianapolis. He is also survived by his children, Jason (David Fish) Day of Maryland, Brandi (Brien) Gladden of Oklahoma, Heather (Kelly) Grounds of Bargersville and Dustin (Bridget) Day of Heritage Lake; brothers, Tim (Patty) Day, Perry (Rhonda) Day and Luke (Terri) Day all of Southern Indiana; grandchildren, Skyler, Trever and Destiny Gladden, Riley Day, Mylee, Ella and Reese Grounds; and Elsie Day.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Luther V. Day Jr.; and a sister, Brenda Brown. 

Bros. Brett Gladden, Rodger Bunch and Jeff Bryant will conduct a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Morgantown General Assembly & Church of the Firstborn, 5898 N. Lick Creek Road in Morgantown. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
