Max Eugene Knapp, age 84, passed away Sunday evening, January 12, 2020 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a longtime resident of Trafalgar.
Max was born June 28, 1935 in Edinburgh, to his parents, the late Arnold D. and Helen E. (Graves) Knapp. He attended Franklin Schools and went on to serve with the Indiana National Guard for ten years. Max retired from Tousley-Bixler Construction Company as a Heavy Equipment Operator for more than 25 years. After retirement, he worked as a Supervisor for the Johnson County Highway Department.
Max was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 103 in Indianapolis and was a 56-year member of the Trafalgar Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Max was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Velda ‘Karen’ (Wray) Knapp, whom he married October 9, 1957 in Franklin. She preceded him on March 1, 2019. He is also preceded in death by siblings, Michael Knapp, Danny Lee Knapp and Robert ‘Bobby’ Knapp.
Max is survived by his daughters, Kelly Jo (Bruce) Shelley of Indianapolis and Kimberly Ann Knapp of Franklin; siblings, Donald Knapp of Helmsburg, Ida (Jimmy) Stump of Trafalgar, Dennis Knapp of Trafalgar, Diane (William) Denny of Indianapolis and David Knapp of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Ed Tharpe will conduct a graveside service at noon on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin. Funeral services have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
