Mary J. (Workman) Thompson, age 88 passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 2019 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Trafalgar.
Mary was born May 13, 1931 in Ohio, to her parents, the late Clarence and Evelyn Workman. She was a 1949 graduate of Greenwood High School. Mary retired in 1991 from the Johnson County Courthouse Annex as a custodian after 13 years of service. Prior to that, she worked as a cook for Indian Creek Schools from 1967 to 1976.
Mary was a 70 year member of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Trafalgar, where she was the song leader and a member of the Ladies Aid. Mary enjoyed playing the piano by ear, working word search puzzles and going out to eat with family and friends. She will be remembered for her cooking and baking, especially her “Sloppy Chicken” that her family enjoyed.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Penny Jo Wethington of Bargersville and Louanne Esselborn of Taylorsville; sister, Jacque Workman of Florida; grandchildren, Brandy Jo Tormey of Chicago, Carol E. ‘Bubby’ Wethington of Lebanon; great grandchildren, Sydnie, Simon, Jordan, J.P. and Little James; great-great grandchildren, Landon and Grant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a granddaughter, Mindy Grooms.
The Rev. Cleon Wright will conduct a funeral service on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
