Rev. Wendell C. Vogt, 79, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at
Greenwood Village South. He was a resident of Indianapolis.
Wendell was born in McPherson, KS, to the late Jacob F. and Ella N.
(Schroeder) Vogt on July 1, 1931.
He was a 1949 graduate of Salina High School, in Salina, KS.
Wendell then attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago from
1949-1950 and graduated from International College in 1961 with a
Business Advisor Degree. He served as a sergeant in the 110th
Infantry Regiment of the United States Army from 1951-1954, during
the Korean War.
Wendell married JoAnn (Barrett) Vogt on February 21, 1954 in
Indianapolis. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2005 after
51 loving years.
He served as an Administrative Officer for the US Agriculture Dept
from 1954 - 1978 and the US Department of Interior from 1978 -
Rev. Vogt was a long time and very active member of the Burge
Terrace Baptist Church in Indianapolis. He served the church in
several different ways, including: past Deacon, Sunday school
teacher, youth sponsor, church choir, Director of Senior Ministry,
and Assistant to the Pastor. Wendell served as Business Manager for
the church from 1983 - 2003. He was ordained into the Ministry as a
Baptist Minister in 1984.
Wendell was the devoted father to one daughter: Diana Vogt
(husband, Fred) Powell of Elkhart and one son: David G. (wife,
Daphne) Vogt of Indianapolis. Wendell will be remembered by his
five grandchildren: Stephen, Michael & Jonathan Vogt, James
& Jessica Powell and one Great Grandson: Micah Vogt; and
brother: Keith D. Vogt of Truckee, CA; and brother - in - law:
Harley Humes of Salina, KS.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Dolores Humes.
Wendell enjoyed woodworking and photography.
The Revs. DeWayne Felber, & Todd Curtis will conduct a funeral
service at 10:00 am, Monday at Burge Terrace Baptist Church, 9345
Brookville Road, Indianapolis. Friends may call from 2:00 - 5:00 pm
Sunday and from 9:00 am till the time of service Monday at the
Church. Wendell will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens
Greenwood. Graveside Military Rites will be presented by the
Greenwood American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor
Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Wendell to Burge
Terrace Baptist Church, 9345 Brookville Road, Indianapolis, IN
