Ocus D. Popplewell, age 85 passed away Monday morning, January 16, 2012 at The Franklin Meadows Nursing Home.  He was a resident of Franklin.

Ocus was born March 25, 1926 in Russell Springs, KY, to the late Emmitt and Maudie (Johnson) Popplewell.  He married his loving wife, Lillian Lois (Wilson) Popplewell on August 17, 1946 in Russell Springs, KY.  She preceded him in death on October 28, 2011 after 65 wonderful years of marriage.

Ocus and his late wife enjoyed working on their family farm, raising cattle and horses.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching IU basketball and playing basketball & baseball.   Ocus was passionate about coaching Little League for several years.  He worked as a carpenter until he retired from the Local Carpenters Union in 1988.  Ocus was a member at the Franklin Separate Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Leader.

Ocus was the devoted father to: Lillian Ann (David) Pogue of Nineveh, Olis D. (Janice)  Popplewell & Mack (Carla) Popplewell of Trafalgar.  He will be missed by his four brothers: Marsel Popplewell & Bruce Popplewell of Russell Springs, KY, Thurman Popplewell of Greenwood, Darwin (Betty) Popplewell of Brown County; and three sisters: Audeen Fox  of Kentucky, Vonda Fizer of Mississippi & Katie Hatfield of Kentucky; eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Ocus was preceded in death by two daughters: Karen M. Baird & Deborah L. Popplewell; one son, Jonathan "JD" Popplewell, and two sisters, Nona Silar & Margie Chumbley; three brothers: Kirby, Coy & Dewell Popplewell.

The Rev's Homer Whited & Ed Tharpe will conduct a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown.  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.

Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Ocus to the Alzheimer's Association, 9135 N. Meridian St. Suite B-4 Indianapolis, IN 46209.
