Lucille Irene Walker, age 96 passed away
peacefully Sunday morning, November 20, 2011 at Community Hospital
South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin and a
former resident of Spearsville.
Lucille was born October 31, 1915 in Spearsville
to the late Virgil E. and Mabel (Laughlin) Walker.
Lucille was a loving woman who never married or
had children, but delighted in spending time with her nieces and
nephews and happily dedicated her life to serving others. As a
young woman, Lucille moved to Indianapolis where she was employed
in the restaurant industry and also found work cleaning homes. She
never drove a car, so most of her life she walked to where she
needed to go. In later years, caring friends and family took her
weekly to the grocery and to her favorite place - The Dollar
Store.
During WWII, when her brothers were serving
overseas, she worked at CampAtterbury helping out in the hospital
and the cafeteria. In the mid 1950's, she moved back to the family
home to care for her aging parents - "Pop" and "Grandma". In 1960,
the three moved to Franklin where Lucille continued care for her
parents until their deaths in 1965 and 1975. After their deaths,
she found employment in serving others at the Franklin High School
cafeteria.
Lucille was a member of the New Life Baptist
Church in Franklin. She will be deeply missed by her family and
friends, especially those from New Life Baptist Church.
Lucille is survived by one brother: Claris Walker
of Trafalgar; sister-in-law: Beulah Walker of Greenwood and 14
nieces and nephews; and many great, great-great and great-great
great nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by three sisters:
Anna Mae Cummings, infants Thelma & Emma Walker; five brothers:
Omer, Carl, Paul "Doc", Laughlin and Ray Walker.
The Pastor Rick Henry will conduct a funeral
service at noon Wednesday at Meredith - Clark Funeral Home
Cremation & Personalization Center,179 E. Mulberry Street in
Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 am until time of service
Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the
Spearsville Church of Christ Cemetery in Spearsville.
