Lois M. (Strattan) Stone, age 82 passed away peacefully Friday
morning, October 7, 2011 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in
Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin and former resident
of Morgantown.
Lois was born April 16, 1929 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the
late Leonard and Dorothy (Skelton) Stratton. She married
Robert L. "Bob" Stone on April 10, 1953 in Terre Haute. He
survives after 58 loving years of marriage.
Other survivors include one daughter: Leann E. Banta and husband
Charles Daniel of Brown County; one son: Bradley S. Stone and
wife Brenda of Morgantown; three sisters: Dorothy Olin and
Becky Taylor both of Mount Vernon, IL and Maple Patton of
Centralia, IL. Lois will be remembered by her eight
grandchildren: Naomi, matthew, Aaron & Isaac Banta,
Valerie Ferguson, Matthew, Benjamin & Caroline Stone and six
great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother: Leonard
Strattan
Lois was a 1947 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, and
received her undergraduate degree in Church Secretarial Work from
Lincoln Christian College in 1951. She went on to earn her
Masters in Education from Indiana University in 1962.
Lois retired in 1990 after 15 years of service as an Elementary
Teacher for the Martinsville School District and 12 years of
services to the Clark - Pleasant Community School
District. After her retirement, Lois enjoyed substitute
teaching for Franklin Schools.
She was a member of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in
Morgantown and attended the Christian Chapel Church in
Franklin. Lois was very active in church and played the piano
and organ. She was also a member of the Johnson County
Retired Teachers Association. Lois enjoyed working in her
flower gardens, quilting, sewing and needlework. She was
known for her wonderful cooking and her pumkin pies. Lois was
proud to have restored two old Victorian Homes with her
husband.
