John O. "Johnny" Gurley

John O. "Johnny" Gurley, age 74 passed away Wednesday evening, December 21, 2011 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin.

He was born August 25, 1937 in Rising Sun to Orville "Pop" and Eva (Curnett) Gurley.  He married his loving wife of 37 years, Florence Ann (Fleener) Gurley on June 14, 1974 at the Beech Grove Baptist Church in Trafalgar.  She survives.

Johnny was the devoted father to his children: Betty (Jeff) Clephane of Fort Stockton, TX, Peggy (Ronnie) Lambert of Bean Blossom, Jeannie Hildebrand & Mary (Raymond) Harris both of Franklin, Bobby Fowler & Jim Fowler both of Brown County. He will be remembered by his sister: Winnie Holtzman of Llewellyn, NE; half brother: Mike Curnett of Franklin; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Johnny was preceded in death by one sister: Kaye Edwards and three brothers: George Gurley, William "Bill" Gurley & Gene Curnett.

He retired in 2007 as a life-long farmer working for Lancaster Farms and David Spurgeon Farms both of Johnson County. Farming was his true passion. Johnny enjoyed hauling grain, driving tractors and caring for cattle and mules. He was known for his great since of humor and always being there for his children. Johnny was also known as the "Band Aid Kid" on the CB Radio.

Johnny enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour western novels, watching golf, cutting wood and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts & the Cincinnati Reds. He loved the outdoors working in his garden, deer, quail & squirrel hunting.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service 1 pm Tuesday at Meredith -Clark Funeral Home Cremation & PersonalizationCenter, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 am till service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Young's Creek Cemetery in Franklin.
